What it is

Vancouver offers several kindergarten choice programs: Early French Immersion, Montessori, Early Mandarin Bilingual, Fine Arts and Indigenous Focus.

Places are decided by a random computer draw. You can list up to three locations, and first choices are considered before second and third choices.

Siblings get priority if an older sibling is in the same program at the same location and lives at the same address.

A good fit if: Families who want French, Mandarin, Montessori, arts or Indigenous-focused learning from kindergarten.

How to register

  1. Register at your English catchment school first (November 1 to January 31).
  2. Apply at kchoice.vsb.bc.ca between 9 a.m. January 5 and the end of day February 2, 2027.
  3. List up to three program locations in order of preference.
  4. Watch for draw results, which in past years arrived around mid-February.

How to prepare

  • Visit or read about each program location before January so your three choices are ready.
  • Think about the commute: choice programs are often outside your neighbourhood.

When is the Vancouver French Immersion kindergarten application for 2027?

Is French Immersion first come, first served?

No. Places are decided by a random draw, so applying on the first day gives no advantage over applying later in the window.

Can I skip catchment registration if I only want French Immersion?

No. You must register at your English catchment school first, then apply for the choice program.
