Privacy

The short version: your child's plan stays on your own device. FirstBell doesn't have accounts, doesn't sell data, and doesn't show ads.

Your child's plan stays on your device

When you set up a plan, the name or nickname, year of birth, district, interests, saved items and school results you choose are saved in your browser's own storage, on your phone or computer. They aren't sent to FirstBell. Clearing your browser's data, or using “Remove from this device” in Edit details, deletes them.

Address searches

When you enter an address to compare school paths, it's sent to the Province of British Columbia's address service (the BC Address Geocoder) to find it on the map. FirstBell doesn't receive or store it. If you have a plan, the address is saved on your device with the results.

Share links

“Use on another device” puts your plan inside the link itself. The plan part of the link isn't sent to FirstBell's servers. Your home address is left out. Anyone you send the link to can see the plan, so share it only with people you trust.

Email reminders

If you sign up for reminders, we keep your email address, your child's year of birth and your district, so the emails match your family. They're stored with our email provider, which may keep them outside Canada. We use them only to send the emails you asked for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

What we never do

  • Sell or share your information with advertisers or anyone else.
  • Use tracking or advertising cookies.
  • Ask for your child's school, photo or full date of birth.

Website hosting

Like every website, our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run the site securely. If we add visitor statistics, we'll use a privacy-friendly tool that doesn't use cookies or identify you.

Questions or deletion requests

Email hello@firstbell.ca. We'll answer, and delete anything we hold about you on request.
