What happens if…

Your kindergarten choice also picks your secondary school

Enter your address to see the elementary and secondary you're heading for, and whether it's worth planning a different route while there's still time.

Compare your child's school paths

Enter your home address to compare three paths side by side: your catchment school, French Immersion and Catholic school, from elementary to secondary, with ratings for every school.

Your address goes only to the Province of BC's address service to find it on the map. FirstBell doesn't store it.

All paths and deadlines, by district

Doors that close early, in every district

  • Before kindergarten: Early French Immersion, Catholic and most private schools take most of their students here. Some districts open French Immersion applications as early as October (Langley, West Vancouver).
  • Grade 5: the application for Late French Immersion, usually the last way into French Immersion. In districts with middle schools (Coquitlam, New Westminster, parts of Langley), Grade 5 is also when you apply for a different middle school.
  • Grade 7: applications for mini schools, academies and secondary schools outside your catchment.
  • Grade 7: Catholic and private secondary applications for Grade 8 entry.
Francophone schools

Conseil scolaire francophone (CSF)

The CSF is a free, province-wide French-language school board. It isn't French Immersion: classes are in French, with English taught as a subject. A family qualifies automatically if a parent is a Canadian citizen and French was their first language, or they went to French-language (not immersion) school in Canada, or one of their children has. Some newcomer parents who would qualify as citizens can apply through an admission committee.

In Metro Vancouver, CSF secondaries are École Jules-Verne in Vancouver (Grades 7–12), Gabrielle-Roy in Surrey and Des Pionniers-de-Maillardville in Port Coquitlam (both K–12). French Immersion never creates CSF eligibility on its own.
