North Vancouver kindergarten registration and French Immersion

What it is

Kindergarten registration for September 2027 is for children born in 2022. The priority period runs from 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026 to midnight on Tuesday, December 15, 2026.

All registrations in the priority period get the same date stamp. There is no benefit to applying on the first day.

Early French Immersion runs at six dual-track schools: Braemar, Cleveland, Dorothy Lynas, Larson, Ross Road and Sherwood Park. French Immersion has no catchment areas. Places are decided by a district-wide lottery.

You can list up to two French Immersion schools. If your child isn't placed, they get an English spot and stay on the French Immersion waitlist for the kindergarten year.

Grade 1 entry is possible through a new lottery. Families apply with a Transfer Request starting in January of the kindergarten year.

Late French Immersion starts in Grade 6, for students who finished Grade 5 in English. It is offered at Boundary and Braemar elementary schools.

A good fit if: North Vancouver families with a child born in 2022, and Grade 5 students who want to start French in Grade 6.

How to register

1. Find your catchment school with the NVSD School Locator.
2. Register online between 10 a.m. October 15 and midnight December 15, 2026. Choose English or French Immersion and list up to two French Immersion schools.
3. Upload proof of address and your child's documents during registration.
4. Watch for a placement email from your school in spring. NVSD's pages say end of April in one place and end of May in another.
5. For Late French Immersion, apply during Grade 5. The 2026 window was January 2 to March 13, 2026.

How to prepare

• Gather documents before October 15 so you can register calmly in the window.
• Only list a second French Immersion school if you'd truly accept it. Accepting a spot you don't want removes you from the waitlist for your first choice.
