What it is

North Vancouver offers all three IB programmes. The Primary Years Programme runs at Capilano, Queen Mary and Norgate elementary schools.

Carson Graham Secondary teaches the IB Middle Years Programme to all its Grade 8–10 students, and offers the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11–12.

The Diploma Programme needs a separate application in Grade 10. For September 2026 the deadline was February 11, 2026. The school recommends an MYP level 6, an A, or 86% in all subjects.

Grade 8–12 academies focus on sports, dance and digital media. 2026/27 academies included Basketball, Dance, Hockey Skills, Rowing, Soccer and Volleyball (Grades 8–12), and Digital Media (Grades 9–12). Artists for Kids Studio Art and Field Hockey were not offered in 2026/27.

There is no district-wide gifted class or mini school listed on the NVSD program pages.

A good fit if: North Vancouver students who want an internationally recognized program, or who have a strong sport, dance or media interest.

How to register

  1. If Carson Graham isn't your designated secondary, submit a Transfer Request in Grade 7. The priority period for September 2027 opens January 4, 2027 and closes in March 2027 (date to be announced).
  2. Transfer Requests are made in person: book an appointment with Central Registration and bring the form and original documents. Requests are granted only if space allows.
  3. For an academy, apply on the NVSD academies page in winter. In 2026, first-round applications closed before February 28. Later applications were placed if space allowed or waitlisted.
  4. For the IB Diploma Programme, apply to Carson Graham in Grade 10. In 2026 there was an information night on January 29 and a February 11 deadline.

How to prepare

  • Talk with your child about whether an inquiry-based IB program fits how they like to learn.
  • Note that an approved Transfer Request is acted on right away, so only request what you'll accept.
