What it is

Children must turn five by December 31 of the year they start school. For September 2027, that means born in 2022.

Kindergarten registration for the next school year opens in January. For September 2026 it opened January 12, 2026.

Early French Immersion, Intensive Fine Arts, Montessori, Traditional, EKOLogy outdoor learning and Xw'epiteng land-based learning are filled through one online kindergarten lottery. Families can apply to up to three choice programs.

Early French Immersion runs at Laronde, Martha Currie, Pacific Heights, Peace Arch, Riverdale, Simon Cunningham and Snokomish elementary schools. Grade 1 entry is possible if space is available.

Late French Immersion starts in Grade 6 at K.B. Woodward, Sunrise Ridge, Crescent Park and Jessie Lee elementary schools. Surrey also offers Intensive French in Grades 6–7.

A good fit if: Surrey and White Rock families with a child born in 2022, and Grade 5 students who want to start French in Grade 6.
