What it is

Shad is a summer program for high school students in Grade 10 or 11. Students work on science, engineering and entrepreneurship projects with peers from across Canada.

The live-in program runs July 4–30, 2027, with 27 days on a university campus. There's also a virtual program, July 5–30, Monday to Friday.

Shad works with 28 post-secondary campus partners across Canada.

A good fit if: Motivated Grade 10 and 11 students curious about science, engineering or starting something new.

How to register

  1. Students apply online at shad.ca. Applications opened September 15, 2026.
  2. Apply by November 8, 2026 for an early decision in December and a guaranteed spot at one of your top 10 campus choices if accepted.
  3. The final deadline is January 6, 2027 at 11:59 pm Eastern time (8:59 pm in BC).

How to prepare

  • Check the fee assistance table before you apply. Families with household income under $40,000 have the full fee covered. Families earning up to $200,000 can apply for some help.
  • Shad says 1 in 3 students receive financial support.
